Alma Waxes Poetic! Four Centuries
of Glorious Music

Enchanting Melodies - Intriguing Rhythms - Enigmatic Poetry! ALMA
takes you on a fascinating journey which illuminates the
interconnection of music, art, dance, literature and the character of
the people they describe. "...wonderful music performed with
imagination, respect and absolute integrity of artistic
interaction..."____P. Krummrich, Prof., Morehead State University
The Ensemble ALMA was founded in 1998 by Anna Bartos and Fabio Gardenal
for the purpose of presenting concerts, lecture-recitals and master classes of
classical and folk Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American music, as well as
an international repertoire.
The Ensemble ALMA has performed in concert halls, at colleges,
universities and conferences including The Hispanic Connection,
and Cervantes: The First 400 Years. It offers programs of over four
centuries of vocal and instrumental music, i.e., songs in Portuguese
and Spanish, including its various dialects and indigenous
tongues such as Nahuatl, the Aztec language. The Ensemble seeks
to entertain as well as educate their audiences to the enormous variety
of music from the Hispanic world, some of which has remained relatively
untapped. Experienced artists in their own right, the members have
joined together with a common goal to perform some of the world’s
most beautiful music. In addition, a portion of their profits is donated
to charitable organizations.
The Ensemble ALMA has appeared at New York University, Hofstra University,
Morehead State University, St. Peter’s Church at Citigroup, The Donnell Library
Center and Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts. They gave their
New York City Recital Debut at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City on
June 27, 2006. (Fiscal Sponsor: The Latino Experimental Fantastic Theater, Inc.,
Gloria Zelaya, Artistic Director). See Concert Page for full details
