NEW YORK RECITAL DEBUT Anna Bartos, Soprano, Fabio Gardenal, Piano, Virginia Luque, Guitar, Elena Yarritu, Flute (Guest Artist). MERKIN CONCERT HALL, NEW YORK CITY.
The Ensemble ALMA presented a concert of music from Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 8 p.m. Three World Premieres were featured: An arrangement of the The Bachianas No. 5 by the Brazilian composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos: The Aria for voice and guitar by Virginia Luque, and the Danza for the Ensemble by Gregg Nestor, and two pieces written and performed by guitarist Virginia Luque, Sangre gitana and Ausencias. Spanish works included baroque and classical arias by Blas de Laserna, Antonio Literes (arr. G. Nestor) and Manuel García, selections from La coleccíon de tonadillas and the aria, La maja y el ruiseñor, from Goyescas by Enrique Granados (arr. A. Bartos). Also heard was Preludio from Bachianas No. 4 by pianist Fabio Gardenal, and The Sonata for Flute and Piano by the Mexican contemporary composer, Samuel Zyman, with Mr. Gardenal and Ms. Yarritu. The concert concluded with an ensemble work, Cantos del Tucuman by the Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera.
